"The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I Here For?" is a book by Rick Warren. This book guides one in the discovery of their purpose. I heard a quote that one of the best days of your life is the day that you discover your purpose. That's the day that everything begins to change.
According to the author, whenever God wants to prepare a man for a special assignment or for them to walk in their purpose, 40 days seems to be a significant period. Some examples include Noah, Moses, the spies sent to the Promised Land, Elijah and Jesus. Therefore this book must be read with patience and intention.
Speaking of intentionality, this book gives the perfect avenues to do so. For each day, there are various activities to keep you engaged. These include:
A Point to Remember: It helps you to meditate on the key lesson.
A Verse to Remember: The bible verse where the lesson was from. For the best results memorize that scripture. Knowing what the Word keeps you from being deceived by the enemy.
A Question to Consider: Get your notebook and pen and answer the question provided. Or if you prefer to write in the book, feel free. Take those practical steps you have written.
Discussion questions: There are some things that God will only tell you when you are alone with Him. of course. But this book isn't just for individuals. You can embark on this journey with your friends, family, and Bible Study group.
Messages to hear: The author includes his website where you can listen to messages about each day.
This is a book I would recommend and even say you should read every year. I learned about who I am in Christ, how to be a servant, what worship is about, and God's mission for my life. I used to think that purpose was getting to the point of self-actualization which is seen in Marslow's theory of needs. I also used to think it was getting to the topmost level of the hierarchy of my career; basically just securing the bag. Don't get me wrong, becoming the best isn't a bad thing but if that is all it is for you, you are being carnal. God has a much bigger plan for you in mind.
